How about this for some grunt! Historic Registration 2008/09 There will be a Log Book and Subscriptions day at the
Woodville Centre (our Club Rooms) on Saturday June the 14th Don't forget to bring your Log Book(s) and registration papers. It
will also ensure that your registration doesn't lapse on July 1st because
you haven't payed your subscriptions and had your Log Book and papers
stamped for the 08/09 year. Remember if you are unfinancial or haven't
had the Log Book and Papers stamped for 08/09 your bike is not registered
after June 30th. Glenbar Snaps

Handy Hints
Triumph
tappet adjustment.
Tappet adjustment of Triumph engines can be simplified by using a
clock winder key in conjunction with a ring spanner. The ring spanner
is placed over the lock-nut, and the winder key will hold the adjusting
screw firmly while the nut is tightened. A quarter turn of the key
is the equivalent to 0.10 inch, the correct tappet clearance.
Velocette
If electrical trouble is experienced on a single-cylinder model and
the dynamo is suspect, a quick check can be made by removing the driving
belt and pushing the cut-out points closed. Provided the battery has
a healthy charge the dynamo should then run as an electric motor:
failure to do so indicates a fault, and the dynamo should be removed
for a thorough check.
Sunbeam
There is a common belief that it is necessary to separate the engine
and gearbox of the Sunbeam twin in order to fit a kick-starter spring.
This is by no means necessary: remove the tool box and the cover plate
screws from the side of the gearbox. Then it will be seen that the
cover plate supports two rods which pass right through the box and
emerge at the opposite side, carrying the kick-starter, gear-lever
and of course, the kick-starter and gear-change springs. First impression
is that it appears impossible to withdraw the plate completely, as
it fouls the frame tube. The engine, however is suspended on rubber
mountings and it is possible to lever the engine slightly with a suitable
length of wood to gain the extra clearance necessary to withdraw the
plate. Replacement of the kick-starter spring is then quite straightforward.
Chains
A new chain like a new engine requires running in and during that
period occasional adjustment will be necessary. Enclosed in an oil
bath a chain will run for a long time without further attention, but
an exposed chain may call for frequent adjustment. Average up and
down chain movement for a solid frame touring machine should be: rear
0.75inch; primary, 0.375inch; magneto or dynamo, 0.25inch. For rear
chain adjustment of spring frame machines follow the manufacturers
specifications.
The standard method of coupling the ends of a driving chain is by
a spring connecting link, a simple and effective device. However,
the connecting link tends to wear more quickly than the remaining
links of the chain and in particular the spring clip is apt to become
slack in it’s grooves. Regular inspection of the connecting
link is advised, and the link should be renewed if there are signs
of slackness. The spring clip should be fitted with it’s closed
end pointing in the chain’s direction of rotation.
It is worthwhile checking a replacement sprocket for accuracy. The
bore must be concentric with the chain pitch circle otherwise the
chain will tend to slacken and tighten as the sprocket rotates. A
pointer adjacent to the sprocket teeth will show up any such fault
which could also, of course, be caused by a bent shaft.
